Free Fatty Alcohols
Free fatty alcohols are similar, in certain respects, to the free fatty acids. They are of a similar molecular size and shape except, rather than having an acid "head" ( -COOH) they have an alcohol head (-OH). This changes a number of their chemical characteristics - most notably the fact that they are rather more "neutral" than the fatty acids, they are less reactive and have a higher affinity for oil.
The free fatty alcohols are commonly used in lotions, creams and hair conditioning products to add "substantiveness", that is the property of adding a protective layer and feel to the skin and hair.
Soaper Scentral offers a range of commercial quality free fatty alcohols suitable for crafters to incorporate into their own soap, lotion or hair conditioner formulations.
